Mobile and 3D deals for SA 2010
FIFA has announced two media deals for the World Cup in 2010, comprising mobile and 3D images broadcasting.
The governing body signed an agreement with official partner Sony to deliver 3D images of nearly half of the games of the tournament (25) for the first time in history.
The broadcast will be available for viewers watching matches on Sony's 3D products and discussions are under way on whether a live right will be offered in the coming months.
In addition, FIFA sold to operator Optus Australia the mobile rights in the country, including live broadcast as well as World Cup-related content specifically produced for mobile phones.
SMileS is currently working with a media company to distribute video downloads to mobile phones on a pay-to-view basis. The trial is scheduled to start in January … more info to follow.
